How to Choose the Right Race Suit Size

Getting the right fit in a race suit is crucial — not just for comfort, but for safety and performance. A suit that's too tight restricts movement; one that's too loose can bunch up and cause discomfort during long sessions. Here's how to get it right every time.

Step 1: Take Your Measurements

Before consulting any size chart, grab a measuring tape and note down the following:

  • Chest: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape horizontal.
  • Waist: Measure around your natural waistline.
  • Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips.
  • Inseam: Measure from your crotch to the floor.
  • Height: Stand straight against a wall and measure from floor to the top of your head.

Step 2: Consult the Size Chart

Every brand sizes differently, so always use the specific size chart provided by Dash Racegear rather than relying on your usual clothing size. Our size charts are based on body measurements, not generic S/M/L labels.

Step 3: Consider What You'll Wear Underneath

If you plan to wear a fireproof undersuit (recommended for karting and mandatory in higher categories), size up slightly to accommodate the extra layer. A suit worn over an undersuit should still allow full arm and leg movement without pulling.

Step 4: Check the Fit Points

When trying on a suit, check these key areas:

  • Shoulders: Seams should sit at the edge of your shoulder, not drooping down your arm.
  • Crotch: Should not pull or sag when you sit in a driving position.
  • Sleeves & Legs: Should reach your wrists and ankles without bunching.
  • Collar: Should sit comfortably without choking or gaping.

Step 5: Simulate the Driving Position

Sit down and mimic your driving position — arms extended forward, knees bent. The suit should move with you, not against you. This is the true test of a good fit.
